The early arrivers set up camp on Friday afternoon before everyone else
showed up. Thank you Elias, De'shon, Austin, and Daniel. That evening
we went to walk on the beach and look for shells.

On Sabbath morning, we went to church in Templeton, where we met a lot of
new people. After church, we went to the beach for lunch and to learn
about shells.

Shells class started with a talk by April about the different types of
shells. With eyes closed, each Pathfinder was given a shell that they
had to describe to the others.

We then explored the beach, looking for shells. Erik made friends with
a Gastopod. The Pathfinders found clam shells, mussel shells, snail
shells, and sand dollars.

Back at camp, Lara discovered a migrating Monarch butterfly. That
evening we all sang songs around the campfire.

On Sunday morning we went to the famous local Shell Shop to get the rest
of the shells we needed for our collections. Each Pathfinder was given
$10 to buy shells. They had to purchase an operculum, a Left-Handed Whelk,
and a Scaphopod(Tusk shell). The names and place of origin of each shell
was recorded by each Pathfinder.

We ate lunch on the pier overlooking Morro Bay with Morro Rock in the
background. We then visited the local aquarium where we fed sea lions,
watched an octapus, sharks, horseshoe crabs, and many other local sea
critters.

That evening we finished the shells class, had evening worship, and
roasted some veggie dogs wrapped in bread dough.

The next morning we had to leave, but on the way out God had one more
amazing thing to show us. Along the highway is a place to view Elephant
Seals. All the Pathfinders were quietly awed by these huge animals. A
pair of 2000 lb males were fighting in the surf, baby seals were lying near their
mothers, growing at a rate of 10 lb per day, and war-scarred males were
trying to sneak in on other's territory. All of this was happening only
a few feet in front of us!
